Continuing my list of why starting a business is like starting a family — just like you love your kids individually for the unique gifts and perspectives they bring, the same will happen with your clients.
You’ll have those clients that will expect detailed agendas before meetings and notes with action items after calls. Those are the ones you’ll come to respect, because they’ll teach you to be organized — a trait that will help you with other clients.
There will be clients that will be comfortable and easy to work with, and because of that, you’ll get more done for them.
And, the clients with the rich professional and personal experiences will have so much wisdom and advice that sometimes, you’ll feel like you’re getting valuable mentorship along with your monthly retainer.
What you get in return won’t always be positive, and that’s okay, too. They’re still needed, because they show you what your limits are, and how far they can be pushed before you put your foot down (not unlike kids, right?).
Here are two “clients” who share their unique perspectives and gifts with me every day. (They were a little younger here than they are now!)
