Create a Space Where Those That Leave Us Can Attest to Having Had a Positive Experience

Updated: Jan 2

23 yrs. ago, I interviewed with Bill Young of Williams Young for their Firm Administrator role. (The day before my wedding, I might add!) They were a 90ish person CPA and Consulting firm. I ended up working there for 3.5 years then another 3.5 years for Wipfli, who they merged with.

To this day, I consider Williams Young one of the best places I have worked at. There are a million reasons, one was Bill Young and the people I met there, but the other reason was their Values - they weren't the traditional values that you always see - they were so unique. Like the one above (and I'm paraphrasing as I don't recall it word for word).

It was the expectation that those they hired might leave them, and that was OK. In fact, that meant that the investment in their development paid off, even if they didn't choose to remain at the company.

Do you recall how you have been treated when you have decided to depart a company? Not many celebrate all that you have accomplished there by wishing you well in your next role. But that is exactly what they did.

So yes, I still have (and wear!) the logo vest I was gifted during an employee appreciation event (that's what purchasing high quality Lands' End logo wear will do - lasts over 20 years!)

So many of the people I worked with there have retired/or they're not on LinkedIn, but tagging a few (and if anyone has the list of the WY Values, please send to me!) - Michael K. Nelson, Donna Edge, Monalu Packard, Steve Lipton, Kristin Kellerman (Bill's daughter), Tammy Jelinek, Marla Alexander, Sarah Samson (Marymee) SPHR, Rhonda Herberger, Glen Spaeth, CPA, CMA, Denes Tobie, CPA,
