10 Ways That Starting a Small Business is Like Starting a Family - #9 Bringing in Reinforcements

Updated: Jan 2

Yet another way starting a small business is like starting a family: You're going to have to bring in reinforcements at some point, and it's totally okay to do so. In fact, it might be the best way to move forward if you're struggling to get stuff done.

As a parent and a business owner, you're going to feel guilt. You feel that twinge when you drop them off at daycare for the first time. When you call a babysitter because you need a night to feel like your whole selves again, not just parents. As humans, we seemed to be wired to make things harder on ourselves. We should be able to do it all. Why can't we?

Well, just because we can doesn't mean we should—and it took being a business owner to really take this advice to heart. These days, I'm a big fan of calling in experts to help me build the best business possible: marketers, accountants, personal branding strategists, coaches, and others. They get to do the things that are within their Zones of Genius, I get to stay within mine, and everyone wins.

Don't get me wrong: running a business is still challenging. But with people like _________ in my corner, it's become less so. I'm glad I discovered a way to let go of the guilt. My business is better for it.
