10 Ways That Starting a Small Business is Like Starting a Family - #10 Even if They Don't Want To

Updated: Jan 2

Parents: ever had a situation where your kids didn’t listen to you?️ How’d it turn out?

Chances are, they may have uttered the words every parent secretly longs to hear: “You were right! I should have listened to you.” (or not)

Well, of COURSE they should have listened to you! You’re the parent. You know your stuff. This isn’t, as the saying goes, your first rodeo.

In that way, there’s certainly a similarity between starting a family and starting a business: even if your clients don’t want to, they should listen to you. You’ve invested a lot of time, money, and brain space to get where you are today.

In my consulting work with companies, I believe that it’s my responsibility to say the quiet part out loud. To tell them what they need to hear, not necessarily what they want to hear. That’s the way forward to real change.

It can be tough, and I empathize with that. It’s not a comfortable feeling for someone to come in and tell you what they’re seeing and what needs to be shifted to get you to your goal.

But, I’ve seen situations similar to this before. I’ve brought solutions forward to situations similar to this before.

And now, I’m here to help you with your specific situation.

Like being a parent, everything I do in my work with companies is in service of keeping organizations safe and moving in the direction that’s right for them. It may not be easy to listen to the advice, but I promise it’s worth it.
